Alex Nelson

With more than 2 decades of providing tenacious advocacy and skilled legal solutions as a construction, real estate, insurance, and general business attorney, Alex has broad industry insight and experience in private practice, in-house, and entrepreneurial roles. He represents businesses of all kinds including contractors, design professionals, material suppliers, and real estate developers, as well as aggrieved homeowners and homeowner associations, and other property owners. Whether negotiating deals, resolving disputes, or structuring business matters, Alex is a relentless partner dedicated to guiding clients through complex challenges with clarity and confidence.

He is a seasoned litigator, with more than $100 million of complex civil disputes successfully resolved in State and Federal courts, arbitration, mediation, and various appellate courts. Alex handles construction defect claims, payment disputes, delay claims, surety bond claims, insurance coverage matters, and many types of real estate and general business disputes.

Alex also performs non-litigated transactional work for entrepreneurial clients, whom he views as business partners. Their successful risk management, profit, and growth are his end goals. He works with clients to prepare and negotiate contracts for many aspects of development and construction projects such as land purchase, prime construction contracts, subcontracts, and land and equipment leases. He consults on insurance and general risk management issues, and is available as a fractional general-counsel.

With his background as a licensed general contractor, an earthwork and underground utilities subcontractor, and a real estate developer, Alex understands the technical and practical realities of construction in ways most attorneys simply do not. This hands-on background gives him a deep, nuanced understanding of how construction projects are built, financed, managed, and—when necessary—defended.

Alex lives in Boulder with his wife and 3 children. He enjoys world travel, cycling, downhill and skate skiing, architecture & design, DIY home projects, and is an avid youth sports supporter.
